Canton Driver Sentenced for Hitting a Flagger

A Canton driver, who was accused of hitting and seriously injuring a construction worker last year, was sentenced Monday in Fulton County. According to court officials, 42 year old Jody Ray Johnson pleaded guilty to driving on a suspended license and was put on two years probation and four months in jail but given credit for time already served. He was also to pay a 2500 assessment. Johnson was accused of hitting 53 year old Cheryl Foster of Downs, who was working as a flagger at a construction site near Banner last July. Police say Johnson claims he was trying to avoid hitting another vehicle which had stopped for the flagger by taking to ditch and accidentally striking Foster. She was lifeflighted to Peoria's OSF St. Francis Medical Center.
