PEORIA - Some Central Illinois communities are still waiting for a new supply of salt following the harsh winter.

East Peoria, Peoria, Bartonville, Normal, and Bloomington told us they put in yearly bids for salt with the Illinois Department of Management services around March.

But have yet to get their supply for the upcoming winter.

Last year's record snowfalls and frigid temperatures left some departments with a depleted supply.

Peoria officials we spoke with say they expected the delay and are confident their supply will come within the next couple of months.

“The suppliers are of course going to deliver to the bigger communities first. And uh, they just want to make sure the larger communities have salt to get started,” said Street/Sewer and Forestry Manager David Haste.

Despite a depleted salt supply, many Central Illinois communities are paying the same price for salt as they did last year because of preexisting contracts.
