BLOOMINGTON - A group of Central Illinois teenagers is headed to the World Championships of Cheerleading.

This team of 20 high schoolers, from nine different schools, has been flipping its way through local competitions, and after competing in a national competition in Schaumburg in early March, they'll now go up against more than 500 squads from 40 countries in Orlando, Fla.

The Lions Cheer Company holds practices for two and a half hours a day, and its athletes say the practice is paying off.

“It's definitely going to be difficult but it'd be nice to at least try and make it to Day 2, because we got the jitters out last year and so this year we're ready to come in strong and go after it like we never have before,” said Jordan Wait-Barker, a senior from Normal Community High School.

The team leaves for the world’s competition on April 24. Team members say their goal is to make it to the second day of competition.
