PEORIA - A special tournament is pitting local baseball teams against each other.

The inaugural Challenge Baseball Tournament kicked off this afternoon at Dozer Park.

Five teams from the Peoria area, and five more from McLean County made up the rosters.

They’re all vying for bragging rights in the “winner-take-all” tournament.

A portion of the weekend's proceeds will be donated to Easter Seals.

The president of the Peoria Chiefs says central Illinois has a rich history of baseball, and this is a great way to showcase local talent.

“You look at Jim Thome and Joe Girardi and Ben Zobrist and Zach McAllister and there are young guys on their teams that could be the guys to make it to the major league,” says Chiefs President Rocky Vonachen.

Thursday night’s second game between Normal Community and Metamora has been canceled due to weather.
