PEORIA – Peoria may get some help paying for construction in the downtown Warehouse District.

Tuesday night, the council approved applying parts of the district to the national register of historic places.

The move will help with historic tax credits.

The city can get a 25% tax credit for building new apartments and businesses in the areas along sections of Adams, May, Oak, Persimmon, State, Walnut, and Washington Streets.

City Documents show more than 50 sites may apply for the historic distinction.
