DELAVAN - The City of Delavan went back in time and became the site of the Civil War this weekend.

The Delavan Community Historical Society held its annual Civil War Days.

Soldiers re-enacted three major battles of the war.

People also had a chance to visit with President Abraham Lincoln and watch a simulated operation on a wounded soldier.

The re-enacters say they perform, because they want to preserve history.

"You get out here," said Shawn McLane, who is re-enacting a Private in the 114th Illinois Infantry. "You get a chance to re-live history. You can educate people as well. I think that is what I really enjoy, being able to talk to the public and, hopefully, teach them something."

Civil War Days is a three-day event in Delavan each year.
