PEORIA - Certain trade schools will now be able to operate in certain commercial areas in the City of Peoria.

Monday night, the City Council approved zoning changes to allow trade schools in C-2 districts, if they can receive a special use permit.

These schools were originally allowed in certain industrial zones.

This comes from a truck driving school operating in the Northwoods Mall parking lot, which is considered commercial.

While some council members are afraid these businesses aren't appropriate for commercial zones, others say that this allows each business to be looked at on a case-by-case basis.
