At a special meeting and policy session Tuesday night, the council discussed merging the planning and zoning commissions in to one larger commission.
The two already work together, when it comes to land use and annexations.
The council hopes that this would speed up an already lengthy process for those looking to develop in the city,
Community Development Director Ross Black said, "It simplifies the process for the applicant. It simplifies the process for the public. I think it reduces the number of activities that are going on, on a monthly basis, for everyone."
The merger will go to the Peoria City Council for a final vote at a later meeting.
