PEORIA - Drivers should be on the lookout for construction near Bradley University.
Construction on the intersection of Main and University began today.
Main Street from Farmington to Underhill is now closed along with Columbia Terrace to St. James on University.
The roads will be completely closed off for the next six weeks.
Construction is expected to continue until May 10th.
The redesigned crosswalk will be safer for pedestrians.
“Part of what we are adding is the Bradley shield. The logo for Bradley on all four corners. We're trying to make the Main Street have a campus feel. We are going to be adding plates with seat walls and bumpers. So pedestrians only have 30 feet to cross,” said City Engineer Scott Reeise.
Despite construction, campus town and main street businesses are still accessible through detours.
