NORMAL - Bloomington-Normal residents celebrated a special milestone for a popular trail Saturday.

The Constitution Trail turns 25 this year. To mark the occasion, city leaders held a short ceremony recognizing the people who helped start it.

Then, guests got a chance to bike, run and walk along its trails. Many say it's hard to believe the construction of the trail was almost halted, but now it's hard to imagine life without it.

"It's hard to think of what would be here if we didn't have trails. Would it just be back yards, would it just be woods? Really, what would be here at this point? It's very hard to imagine not being able to jump on the trail and bike or run wherever you want to go,” said Heather Wagner, communications manager for the Town of Normal.

Bloomington and Normal plan to expand the trail even further this year. It also has a new logo to mark its 25 years.
