Corn and Soybean Crop Ahead of Schedule

Corn and soybean crops are proceeding way ahead of schedule, according to the latest data released Monday by the Illinois Department of Agriculture. 82 percent of the corn is silking which is way ahead of the 70 percent five year average. 81 percent of the corn crop is either excellent or good . Meantime, 69 percent of soybeans are blooming ahead of the five year average of 55 percent. 77 percent of the beans are in good to excellent condition while only one percent is in very poor condition. Topsoil moisture was rated 9 percent short, 83 percent adequate and 8 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture was rated 1 percent very short, 14 percent short, 80 percent adequate and 5 percent surplus.
