Heavy rains continued to soak parts of northwest and northeast Illinois last week while the southern half of the state received less than average rain. Corn silking reached 28 percent, slightly behind the 5 year average of 30 percent. 80 percent of the corn was rated good to excellent. Meantime, soybean blooming was 29 percent, above the 5 year average of 17 percent. Soybeans are rated 75 percent good to excellent condition. Topsoil moisture was rated 6 percent short, 81 percent adequate, and 13 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture was rated at one percent very short, 12 percent short, 81 percent adequate and 6 percent surplus.
