The hotel's staff, developers, and city officials were all on hand for the ceremony
The new hotel has been more than three years in the making.
It has a workout room, suites and a swimming pool.
The courtyard is also connected to the Pere Marquette and the Civic Center. Management hopes that will help attract bigger crowds.
"The whole point of this is so the city has a convention center hotel. We can then house any of the guests coming into the civic center. They can stay here out of the elements and use the sky bridge back and forth," managing director Joe LoMonaco said.
But it has not been a completely smooth road to get the new hotel open.
The developers wanted to switch management of the Courtyard and Pere Marquette earlier this year.
City council was a bit hesitant and city councilman Chuck Weaver suggested forming an oversight committee.
The committee would include the project developer, someone from the new management, and one person from the city.
The committee never formed, but the management switch was eventually approved.
"The city council just wanted information, and they deserved that. The information was, 'okay, if you're changing management, give us some reasons why,'" developer Gary Matthews said.
Although the committee never formed, the city will be getting financials from management, so it will still be involved.
