Birthdays are always a thing to celebrate, but when someone turns one hundred years old... the celebration should be enormous.

One local man celebrated his birthday along with almost forty thousand others.

“I'm pretty excited. I've never been on a pitcher’s mound. When I was playing I was a catcher" says Lewis Reinhart.

Reinhart is a simple man. He has two great loves… his family and the Cubs.

"I’ve been a fan for 50 years, maybe more"

At one hundred years old, Reinhart has seen his fair share of Cubs games... but he’s never experienced one like Friday’s home opener.

"I don't know what to do. I appreciate the honor they've given me. I don't think I deserve it."

The Cubs organization asked the centenarian to deliver the game ball to the pitcher’s mound, but a scheduling conflict cut out Louis' trip.

The Cubs hand delivered the ball from the opening pitch to compensate. Not a bad birthday for a lifelong fan.

"I hope the cubs win the pennant. They've got a long way to go."
