The Peoria City Council passed a sales tax increase for the Westlake Shopping Center at Tuesday night’s meeting.
It passed 8 to 3.
The 0.75% tax increase was requested by Cohen Development, the property owner.
An attorney for the development group says the revenue will help the complex pay for needed improvements, like a new parking lot.
The money can only be used towards those types of cosmetic upgrades.
The change will not affect the city of Peoria’s finances.
