The board appointed James Almeda to replace Steve Perry, who moved to Virginia Beach for work last month. After Perry left, the board narrowed its pool of candidates to four, before deciding on Almeda to serve until March.
Superintendent Dr. Barry Reilly says it's important to make the transition now before school gets into full swing.
"They come in, certainly knowing some things about our district and our community, and Jim, having been on our wellness committee in particular, he has a sense of our schools and what's going on here,” said Reilly.
Reilly says the advantage of the Perry’s resignation means the district now has more qualified candidates who could step in, in the future.
Almeda has been the Health Promotion and Wellness Coordinator at Illinois State University for the last 10 years.
