BLOOMINGTON - Business travelers will soon have a new place to stay in the Twin Cities.

In less than a month, the doors should open to an extended stay Residence Inn by Marriott hotel.

Construction workers have been drilling and hammering away for more than a year at the future site of a Residence Inn for Bloomington.

"You've got full kitchens in all the rooms. I mean, it's handicap-accessible. We've got special rooms for that,” said contractor Brian Buter.

While the city of Bloomington continues to wrestle putting a hotel in its downtown area, this four-story, 100 room suite facility has been designed for business travelers and visitors to the local colleges.

"People coming in, staying in different states or whatnot. They can have the benefit of getting their own food, staying right in the hotel, cooking, all that,” said Buter.

Buter's crews recently completed a mirror image of this hotel in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

And that vision is slowly coming together here as well. The first floor still needs the most work, but the upper levels are starting to resemble the finished product.

"Mostly just hanging some lights and putting the bulbs in,” said Buter.

And at the end of the day, another floor will move closer to the finish line.

"The biggest thing right now is the carpet. Once the carpet's down, it'll look almost done. Just getting all the millwork in it. It shouldn't take much longer,” said Buter.

East Peoria is also expected to begin construction on its Residence Inn hotel in the next couple of months.
