A Galesburg firefighter is one of several firemen who were awarded the highest state honor, the “Medal of Honor.”

Captain Derek Perry was given the medal during a ceremony in Springfield.

Last year Perry ran into a burning home to rescue a three-year-old boy trapped inside.

This isn’t the first honor for Perry.

Last year he was awarded the “Medal of Valor.”

Also acknowledged in the ceremony was Perry’s fire fighting partner, Matt Lewis.

Lewis received the “Firefighter Excellence Award” for his service to the city of Galesburg.
