A bill, sponsored by State Senator Jim Oberweis, whose challenging U S Senator Dick Durbin in November, was vetoed Tuesday by Governor Quinn. That bill, which was co sponsored by Peoria Senators Dave Koehler and Darin LaHood, would raise the speed limit from 65 to 70mph on all toll highways under the jurisdiction of the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority. Quinn says he used his veto pen citing evidence drivers already exceed the speed limit in many cases which can lead to serious accidents.
