On Wednesday night, Heyworth sophomore Jacob Day had a key that unlocked a brand new Mitsubishi Outlander.
He was one of 19 finalists for operation cool where students sign a contract saying they will always buckle up when they get in their cars.
Day still can't believe that he took home the prize, and faculty members say it's a great motivator for his classmates.
“Having a kid from Heyworth win the car really makes this contest more real for our students. So, down the road, they'll be able to see Jacob driving that Mitsubishi and they'll want to enter as well,” said Jeff Asmus, principal.
"I was still kind of shocked that I won. It was like, 'This is too good to be true,' but once they were like, 'No, this is for real. This is your car, you can keep it forever, I was, like all right,” said Day.
Since the program started 17 years ago, Lexington High School has won the contest three times.
