PEORIA - The South Side Mission hosted its annual Hike for Hunger today.
The event raised more than $60,000 for the non-profit.
It’s the most in the hike’s eight year history.
Participants registered for the hike beforehand and were given raffle tickets based off which course they took.
The money will support the 100-thousand free meals the mission gives to the needy each year.
Organizers say the hike also provides the public the chance to learn more about their charity work.
“Many of these families will come back and volunteer throughout the year. Whether it is through our Thanksgiving or Christmas outreach or volunteering on a regular basis with a family,” said Executive Director of the South Side Mission Phil Newton.
