HOPEDALE – A scare in a Tazewell County town this morning sent law enforcement scrambling to a Casey’s General Store.
Sheriff’s deputies say dispatch got several 911 calls from Michael Christiansen saying he was going to kill himself and others and shoot police.
In a call after that, he said “time had run out,” and he was heading to Casey’s General Store in Hopedale to shoot everyone.
Several area officers responded, but nothing happened at the store.
Officers found him at his home in Hopedale where it took an hour for police to get him to surrender.
Relatives said he is a military veteran who has post-traumatic stress disorder.
“Our main concern, my main concern is that he gets the treatment that he needs. Obviously, that is out of my expertise, and that is what we’re looking at right now,” Hopedale Police Chief Greg Layne said.
Police said they are not sure if they will prosecute Christiansen.
