HOPEDALE - The Hopedale community is coming together to honor a fallen hero.

Marine Captain Reid Nannen, Hopedale native, died in a jet crash earlier this month.

Friday residents lined the streets of Hopedale as Nannen's procession moved through the town.

The procession - escorted by the Patriot Guard Riders - led the fallen Marine on the 11 - mile trek from Hopedale to Olympia High School, which held his visitation.

More than 2,100 flags guided the procession to the school.

Hopedale residents say it is a small community, and everyone knew Nannen in some way.

Jan Litwiller, Reid's 2nd grade teacher, said, " Hopedale is a tight-knit community. I knew Reid and knew his family. I taught his sisters, also. I just wanted to come out, out of respect for Reid and the family."

Nannen's funeral will be Saturday at 10 A.M. at Eastview Christian Church in Normal.
