The Illinois Department of Public Health confirms the first human case of West Nile Virus in Illinois this year.

The person infected is reportedly a Chicago woman in her late seventies.

She fell ill in July.

The IDPH is reminding people to take precautions and use insect repellent when outside.

It says West Nile in birds, mosquitoes, and humans has not spread as much as last year.

Thirty two counties have reported this virus so far this year, while forty nine had at this time last year.
