Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan encourages Illinois counties to grant same sex marriage licenses immediately following a federal court ruling in Cook County last week. The judge ruled Cook County same sex couples didn't have to wait until the June first deadline. Madigan spelled out her thoughts in a letter. However, Madigan said other counties are not bound by the judge's ruling but encouraged the county clerks to consult with their local state's attorneys before making any decisions. Both Peoria and Tazewell County clerks said Wednesday they have consulted their local state's attorneys and are awaiting an opinion.
