Local farmers and soybean producers stopped by the Illinois Soybean Association in Bloomington to discuss the latest trends in the industry.
Despite the poor weather conditions last year, Illinois still ended the year as the top producer in the nation. Better weather and an early planting schedule this year, is making it a close battle with Iowa to be No.1 again back-to-back for the first time in 20 years.
"We still haven't figured out how we did that because year after year, we need rains in those times, and we didn't get those last year and raised the best crop I've ever raised in my life,” said Rob Schaffer, District 6 Director of ISA.
According to the American Soybean Association, last year, the U.S soybean crop was worth nearly $42 billion.
