Illinois State Police in Metamora are warning residents of a phone scam. According to a release issued Thursday night, a resident has received a call purportedly from an employee of the Illinois State Police. The person advised the victim they must send money or they would be arrested. State Police say they would never ask for money over the phone or negotiate a payment in lieu of arrest. Residents are reminded to never give out personal information and to always report these incidents to police. If you have been the victim or this scam or a similar scam, contact the Illinois State Police at 383 2133 or your local police department.
