BLOOMINGTON - Illinois Wesleyan’s newest students have quite the first impression of their president.

On Tuesday, Richard Wilson took the "Ice Bucket Challenge", to support ALS research, with the class of 2018 standing by.

Wilson took the plunge with two colleagues at his side. Wilson says he was eager to take the challenge because a good friend of his, former IWU president Bob Eckley, lost his battle with ALS in 2012. It's something he hopes will get the students talking.

"That period of time I was waiting for it to hit and it wasn't quite there yet, so that was, I say the most anxious moment and then of course, you're freezing for an instant and then because it's so warm, it didn't feel too bad,” said Wilson.

Wilson took the challenge with Provost Jonathan Green and Dean of Students Karla Carney-Hall.
