A plan to prevent 9 1 1 dispatchers from tipping off criminals passes the Illinois Senate Tuesday and moved on to the Illinois House for its consideration. Three years ago, the Illinois Supreme Court ruled it's not a crime for a dispatcher to let a drug dealer know that police are in the area. The court found the case troubling but found nothing in current Illinois law making such behavior illegal. Under a bill sponsored by State Senator Dave Koehler of Peoria , tipping off criminals would be a felony.
