City officials say there is a lot of work to do to rehabilitate the old K's building off of Veterans Parkway and Clearwater Avenue.
It’s been empty for nearly seven years.
Within the next two weeks, work to alter the facade and the sides of the 100,000 square foot building will begin. Officials say it's already gaining favorable reviews from residents.
“With the opening of Hy-Vee, the shopping center will now be at 100 percent occupancy, which is wonderful for the other tenants, such as Binny's and Sport Clips, which have recently opened and I think will benefit from the extra traffic generated by Hy-Vee,” said Justine Robinson, economic development coordinator for the City of Bloomington.
Hy-Vee has stores in eight Midwestern states. It opened its first Peoria store in 2010.
