LEXINGTON - The city of Lexington is moving closer to having its own police presence again.

Head of the police search committee, Christopher Phelps, says the city has narrowed its candidate field down to six. The committee will begin interviewing those candidates on the July 22, with the pick likely to come shortly after.

McLean County sheriff's deputies have been providing patrols since former Police Chief Dave Schneider resigned in early June.
