The Illinois People's Action group was in town standing in solidarity with the Ferguson community.
The group marched from the courthouse to the Department of Justice in downtown Peoria, and they delivered a letter to the Attorney General.
One organizer says the letter demands, among other things, the immediate arrest of the officer who shot Brown, but he says the best way to spark a movement is to get out and vote.
“Hopefully that'll be the first step that we can take as far as really addressing this and showing our electoral power because without electoral power, we have no power and people won't listen to us. So that's what we're trying to do, as well,” organizer Sonny Garcia said.
Garcia said he hopes the long term impact of the Ferguson situation will spark an open discussion and race relations in the United States.
