For the third consecutive month, unemployment fell in all metro areas in Illinois, according to data released Thursday by the Illinois Department of Employment Security. Bloomington's jobless rate dropped from 7.9 percent last June to 6.4 percent this June. However, Bloomington Normal also saw one of the largest decreases in jobs , losing sixteen hundred jobs in the past year, comparing June to June. Meantime, Peoria also saw its jobless rate drop from 9.2 percent last June to 7.3 percent this June. However, Peoria metro area lost twenty five hundred jobs in the past year, comparing June 2013 to June 2014.State officials admit some people are still hurting, but some of the discrepancy in the figures is because of disgruntled workers who have given up looking for work and a shrinking labor force participation rate.
