PEORIA - Mail carriers are picking up more than just packages and letters on Saturday.
They'll be gathering non-perishable food items left by residents along their routes.
The National Association of Letter Carriers is encouraging you to leave the items either by your mailbox or curbside.
The food will be transferred local volunteer groups and then distributed to people in need.
It's all part of the 22nd National Letter Carrier's food drive.
As long as it’s pretty obvious we’ll definitely see it. In fact, most people try to leave it by the mailbox. But once in a while we’ll see something a little bit different. But people are normally very generous.
Mail carriers will be picking up food in neighborhoods all throughout Central Illinois.
