BLOOMINGTON - The fate of a McLean County watchdog is now in the hands of the voters.

The county board voted 12-6 Tuesday to put a new referendum on the November ballot.

The referendum suggests that the county auditor be appointed instead of elected. Some say the change comes at a bad time, after a furniture controversy with current auditor, Michelle Anderson.

Those who voted for it, say it's all about merit and saving taxpayers money.
