BLOOMINGTON - The McLean County Board is eying its animal control department as a way to potentially save taxpayers money.

In McLean County, animal control is part of the health department.

Finance committee members say it's one of the few like that in the state of Illinois. So, they suggested making animal control into its own department. They say it will help streamline communication. The board is still wondering if it's worth it.

"Obviously, we don't want to do anything that will jeopardize or negatively impact the program. So, we're being careful and thorough about it, but we haven't seen any significant down sides just yet,” said Bill Wasson, county administrator.

Wasson says the county board will probably not take any action on the item for at least another month or so.
