The McLean County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors voted Friday to oppose the proposed 1 percent sales tax referendum for McLean County schools. The proposed general merchandise tax would bring additional revenues to county school districts for buildings and structural improvements. After multiple discussions and feedback from the membership, the board made its decision to oppose the tax referendum based on the organization's mission to promote local commerce, and felt the tax would have an adverse effect.
