The Mclean County Association for Home and Community Education is "gearing up" for its disaster preparedness event this weekend.
Disaster preparedness expert Eddy Weiss will be the keynote speaker focusing on severe weather safety.
More than fifteen vendors will be on display to help teach people how to be better prepared for emergencies.
Organizers say it's vital for families to know how to act effectively when disaster strikes.
"I think if you haven't had somebody tell you about this or show you this then maybe you don't think about it as much. So that's what we're trying to do. We want to make it a fun day for both kids and adults," said Kathleen Emery, President of Mclean County Association for Home and Community Education.
"We don't want to scare them but we do want them to be aware that disasters do happen and things can be okay as long as they and their families are prepared," commented Captain Brad McCollum with the Bloomington Fire Department.
The event is this Saturday May 3rd, from 10am until 2pm.
It will be at the Interstate Center in Bloomington.
It is free and open to the public.
