The shoes will now be taken by Water Step, a non-profit that sells the shoes to merchants in poor areas of the world.
The merchants can then sell the shoes in their area.
Meanwhile, Water Step uses the money from the vendors to fund clean water filtration to other impoverished areas.
"As a community, Peoria has done a fantastic job in collecting shoes, probably more so than any other community that we work with,” said Water Step Chief Operating Officer Greg Holt. “And we're in several different states collecting shoes."
Over the last two years, more than 20,000 pairs of shoes have been donated to the non-profit, resulting in safe drinking water for thousands worldwide.
The drive kicks off on August 1st.
