Last month brought the most July guests ever to the Miller Park Zoo. It was its fourth highest month of all-time, with more than 20,600 guests stopping by.
Zoo Superintendent Jay Tetzloff says the variety of animals, and the fact that families don't have to spend the entire day traveling around the zoo has made it a popular destination. He hopes some new exhibits planned for next year will help further that growth.
"We're really hoping to improve what the guests experience, but also we know they're coming for the zoo, to see the animals. And we want to show them new animals and hopefully babies as we go and move forward,” said Tetzloff.
Tetzloff says work should begin on new flamingo and monkey exhibits early next year. The Miller Park Zoo opened in 1891.
