New developments Friday out of Washington regarding the city's embattled fire chief. The department released a statement Friday afternoon which says the members of the Department's board of directors and Fire Chief Mike Vaughn have agreed there are some differences in philosophies that need to be addressed. The board members and the chief have agreed to work together to find a solution for the good of the department and the community. Last month, the board decided, in closed session not to renew Vaughn's contract. That outraged many in Washington. This week, three of the five board members resigned over the matter, leaving the board without a quorum and unable to do business. The process to replace those members has begun and Washington City Council will meet Monday in special session to decide on replacing one of the members who resigned. Vaughn's contract will automatically renew August first, unless the board takes action.
