PEORIA – A new plan introduced today aims to give a boost to Peoria-area minority groups.
Right now, only 7 percent of contracting companies in the area are owned by minorities and women.
Peoria County came up with the Contractors Development Initiative. It will help educate those who already have a business, giving them tips to success.
The program will also partner with the Illinois Black Chamber of Commerce and the Minority Business Development Institute.
“We want to focus on what you need to do to not only get in business but stay in business, and not only survive but thrive,” Joanne Brooks, of Surety & Fidelity Association of America, said.
The group plans to help 30 businesses with general practice tools and then 20 businesses with their bonds.
So far, that is a total of 50 businesses getting help from the county.
