PEORIA - As the announcement of Roy’s departure settles for students, many are taking the time to say "thanks" to their principal.
Students took to the hard-wood to show support for their now former principal. Peoria Notre Dame and Washington high girls' basketball went head-to-head in a playoff game tonight in Chillicothe. The Peoria Notre Dame student section sported business ties in support of Principal Roy.
Student Austin Swanson says he's grown close to Roy over the years. Like many students, he does not like the circumstances but is happy for Roy.
"It's a great opportunity for him so we're all really happy for him. I mean it is California. We're talking about California. We're all really happy. We are not mad at him. We agree. We're fine with him,” said Swanson, a junior student.
The diocese isn't saying much more about the changes.
Meanwhile, Notre Dame staff told parents in an email that student absences today are excused for students who were not there. Staff says if a student does not have a verified absence on Friday, they will be marked unexcused.
