BLOOMINGTON - A major artery for Twin Cities recreation will soon be closed for the rest of the summer.

Work will be done on the Constitution Trail from Hershey to Eddy Road in Bloomington. Construction crews will replace an exposed sewer pipe that runs alongside the trail. That will start on Tuesday, and continue through August.

Those who still want to run, or bike, will be detoured through nearby subdivisions. City officials say they need to get the work done while the weather is still nice.

"We actually don't want them to go along the trail at that point because there's going to be a lot of construction equipment,” said public works director Jim Karch. “There's going to be areas that are going to be dug out and trenches that are not going to be protected, really, so that people can go around them. This is going to be a full shutdown, because it's going to completely go across the trail.”

Right now, the city doesn't know how much the whole project will cost. It'll have a better idea once they start work on the pipe.
