Pekin police officers hosted a picnic today with food, inflatables and prizes. Plus, kids got to learn about the K-9 dogs, and it's all meant to build relationships between the police and community.
"I think it's really important for kids to see us outside of just the uniform. That we are real people and that we do love kids and we do want to interact with them in a positive way,” patrol officer Jennifer Melton said.
Today was the fifth and final event of the summer and more than a hundred kids came out throughout. The police force hopes to continue this tradition again next year.
