NORMAL - There's a special performance taking place this weekend in the Twin Cities, beginning on Friday.

The Penguin Project of McLean County is a program for children with disabilities to participate in community theater.

The project pairs young people with special needs with same age peer mentors to create an annual theatrical production. This year, the penguins chose to perform the Little Mermaid, Jr.

"It's a very complicated program for our kids, but they do a remarkable job, and last night we had an open dress rehearsal, and we've gotten rave reviews. So, we're looking forward to showing it to the community,” said Erin Rogers, executive vice president programs and services for Easter Seals.

The Penguin Project performances will take place in the Stroud Auditorium at University High School in Normal.

There are several show times, beginning Friday at 6 p.m.

There will also be a show Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 for kids and $10 for adults.
