A Peoria County Coroner's inquest shows Aspen Neal died of suffocation in early January. The report states the nearly four month old was found lying on the floor with a pink blanket around her neck next to a couch where an adult and another child slept. An East Peoria fire department report from January states the child's mother says she last saw her daughter sleeping in a motorized baby swing. The coroner says there's no evidence the child could have been ejected by normal operation of the swing or by herself. The coroner also says the girl had multiple fractures of the ribs and extremities, both healed and recent as well as bruises consistent with blunt trauma or pressure. The coroner's jury Tuesday ruled the death a homicide.
