Peoria - The Peoria County Board is adding a full-time position to the Veterans Assistance Commission, a board that helps veterans receive their federal benefits.

Board members decided Thursday night to make the change to handle the increase of benefit applications.

In 2012 there were just over 11,000, with 2013 seeing just under 18,000.
As of April this year, there have already been more than 10,000 applications.

The unanimous decision from the board changed the commission's part-time position that assisted with applications, to a full time position.
