The father of a Peoria High School student, who died in February of 2013, pleaded guilty Friday to involuntary manslaughter and criminal neglect of a disabled person. As part of the plea agreement, prosecutors agreed to a 12 year cap when Darnell Hunter is sentenced August 22nd. His change in plea Friday came just days before his trial was to begin. The charge claims, as the caregiver to his son, Darnell, Junior, Hunter failed to provide adequate nutrition and medical treatment. An autopsy revealed Darnell Junior died of inflammation to the stomach and bronchopneumonia but claimed a contributing factor was malnutrition.
