PEORIA - The Peoria Public Library’s Lincoln Branch is receiving some national recognition this week.
The 104-year-old library was placed on the National Register of Historic Places just yesterday.
The Lincoln Branch is a Carnegie library. This recognition means rules and regulations are now in place so the building is preserved for years to come.
“It’s something if people are traveling or people are looking for an example, here is an original Carnegie library that looks like it did the day it was open,” Peoria Public Library’s Trisha Noack said.
The library does have a new addition that would still fall under the rules and regulations of the National Register.
Noack said all the bricks that were removed from the original building during the renovations were numbered and saved in case it ever needed to be put back together.
